The Photon S3 has been seen by quite a few people in the last few weeks. Because we are sharing the workspace with another green products company, Greenways Solar, the people coming in to see their solar panel manufacturing lines have also been shown the Photon in it's current awkward state of disassembly. Still the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and a great boost to Paxterra morale.
Next week should mark the end of the Frame/Chassis/ Drivetrain fabrication culminating with the installation of the motor and chain drive. Layout of electrical components and mock-up of the fairing we'll be using for the road tests have begun. Electrical installation will continue as the panels for fairing elements are fabricated. Our first tests will be run with the Orbital 120v pack. From this data we should be able to extrapolate the vehicle performance with the full LiFePo4 pack. We are also considering testing the second motor option with the Advance motor running at 48 volts.
Sheet metal design for the fenders, hood, air dam and rear compartments will begin and continue through the road test phase. We are hoping to elicit the help of a local sheet metal genius/artist that has known about the project for some time. We need you Esteban!
All in all, as I take a break with family, I feel very positive about the progress that has been made at Paxterra over the last three months: Relocated to R&D facility in Chico, Social Networking begun (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Kickstarter, Website), added an Engineering Associate, critical components designed and fabricated, ROLLING CHASSIS COMPLETE!
Next Tuesday we meet with our first representative of the Venture Capital Community. This could be the start of our acceleration toward product shipping in 2011 only five years after project initiation. This is pretty hot for a transportation sector considering the staffing levels that have been common throughout the project.
I will welcome the assistance that will be possible once more money is available for the project. And to all of you that are helping currently, or have helped in the past, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, we could not have gotten here without you. We are doing important work and it looks like the assumptions about the initiation of the electric vehicle market have been correct. We will launch in the thick of a fine bunch of vehicles brought forth by such behemoths as GM, Nissan, and others. Our vehicle will compare well in most categories and exceed their capabilities in a few. 2011 looks like the year of the electric vehicle, finally, and we have a horse in the race -the dark horse.
